I took parts of chapters from my first book "A Path That Could Have Killed Me", which was an Autobiography. The parts were on drugs. From that I developed this book. With my own knowledge on the subject, and a lot more research and many interviews I hope I can give you, my readers a good overview of the subject. The book covers the feelings of families and relations who become involved and suffer because of their loved ones drug addiction. The drug users include kids, teenagers and adults. Drugs are not choosy on who they sign up, any age, any gender, any colour will do.
I have been there myself, I have also looked after drug users, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder kids (ADHD) and hard to handle kids for over fifteen years. I know drug users will lie, cheat and steal, even from those they love. I wrote in the front of the book that most drug users can't be cured or don't want to be cured, but they can be side tracked. I wrote that it's like remission, and the more side tracking and the more remissions they have, of course the better. In my experiences with drug users one of the activities they seem to enjoy is weight training. A lot of them really end up quite body conscious.
There are two things in my opinion that should be made clear. The myth about drug users being raped or bashed as kids or some other horrible saga. Sure it's true somethimes, but my son who is sixteen, does heaps of sport, has never smoked or drank, could walk out our front gate any time in the future and light up a joint with his mates because he didn't want to look weak in front of them. It's as simple as that. The other thing I will repeat is:
DRUGS ARE NOT PREJUDICED, RACIST, DISCRIMINATIVE OR
AGE WARY ABOUT WHO THEY HOOK UP.
